Neuroterus (genus Neuroterus) is a genus of gall wasps belonging to the family Cynipidae. These insects are famous for their ability to manipulate the growth of host plants, specifically oaks (Quercus), inducing the formation of plant galls. By injecting specific secretions during oviposition, the wasp forces the plant to create a protected environment for its larvae.
These pests primarily target various oak species, affecting leaves, buds, and catkins. While most healthy mature trees can tolerate a certain level of infestation, repeated and heavy attacks can significantly stress the tree, leading to reduced vigor and aesthetic decline in ornamental urban or forest landscapes.
