As a specialized pest, it primarily targets various deciduous tree species, with a particular affinity for poplars and willows. While it may not always reach outbreak proportions, its presence can significantly affect the health of individual host plants.

The biology of this species is characterized by a distinct seasonal cycle. The insect typically overwinters as a pupa, sheltered within the soil or the leaf litter near the base of the host tree. Adult moths emerge in the spring, and after mating, females deposit eggs on the underside of leaves, ensuring that the emerging larvae have immediate access to a food source.
