Description
Oenopia conglobata is a species of ladybird beetle belonging to the family Coccinellidae and the order Coleoptera. While ladybirds are widely known as biological control agents, this specific species can exhibit phytophagous behavior, occasionally causing damage to various plant species.
This pest primarily affects woody plants, including various deciduous trees and shrubs. It is frequently observed on species such as poplars, willows, and certain fruit-bearing trees, where both larvae and adults may feed on leaf tissue when their usual aphid prey is scarce or absent.
The life cycle follows a complete metamorphosis: egg, larva, pupa, and adult. Adults typically hibernate in leaf litter or within crevices in tree bark during the colder months.
