The genus Olla belongs to the order Coleoptera and the family Coccinellidae. While many members of this family are considered beneficial predators that feed on aphids, certain species within the Olla genus exhibit omnivorous behavior. In agricultural settings, this can lead to crop damage when natural food sources are scarce or during peak population outbreaks.
The most documented species is Olla v-nigrum. Originally native to North America, it has spread to various agricultural regions globally. This feeding activity reduces the photosynthetic capacity of the plant, which, in high populations, can significantly decrease overall biomass and final market yield.
