The pest primarily targets a range of trees and shrubs, showing a preference for young, developing wood. Host damage is often observed in orchards and forest nurseries, where the activity of the beetle can cause significant stunting of growth and structural instability in the affected plants.

The biology of this species is centered around the adult female's behavior of girdling twigs. By gnawing a circle around a branch, the female kills the terminal portion, providing an ideal substrate for the eggs and subsequent larvae. The larvae develop inside the fallen woody material, which protects them until they reach the pupal stage.
