Parmena is a genus of longhorn beetles belonging to the family Cerambycidae, subfamily Lamiinae. These beetles are primarily xylophagous, meaning their larvae feed on wood. In agricultural and forestry contexts, they are recognized as secondary or primary pests that can significantly weaken host trees by boring into the bark and cambium layers.
The primary host plants for Parmena include various broad-leaved trees and deciduous shrubs. They are particularly attracted to stressed or wounded trees, making them a common issue in neglected orchards or plantations undergoing environmental stress such as drought or mechanical damage from improper pruning.
The biology of Parmena follows a typical holometabolous development pattern. Females deposit eggs into bark crevices or wounds. Upon hatching, larvae burrow into the sub-cortical space, where they construct galleries. This stage is often the most destructive, as the larvae feed for extended periods, effectively girdling the tree if the infestation is severe enough to interrupt nutrient transport.

Over time, the infestation leads to reduced vigor, impaired sap flow, and the eventual death of the tree. Maintaining tree health through adequate irrigation and fertilization is essential to increase natural resistance.
