Description
Phyllocoptes adalius is a representative of the family Eriophyidae, commonly known as four-legged or gall mites. These are microscopic arthropods that feed on plant tissues, often causing localized growth disturbances and physiological stress in host plants.
The primary host plant for this mite is raspberry. The mites colonize the leaves and feed on the plant sap by piercing the epidermal cells. This constant feeding pressure disrupts the normal metabolism of the leaves, which is particularly detrimental during the active growth phases of the plant.
The biological cycle of this mite is highly synchronized with the development of the raspberry. Adult females overwinter in protected places, such as dormant buds or beneath the bark of stems.
