Description
The Resovius rust mite (Phyllocoptes resovius) is a microscopic pest classified within the Eriophyidae family. These tiny arthropods are invisible to the naked eye, often making their infestation difficult to detect until significant visible damage to the host plant's foliage has already occurred.
Taxonomically, the mite belongs to the order Trombidiformes. Unlike spider mites, Phyllocoptes resovius possesses only four legs, which allows it to thrive in restricted spaces such as the crevices of leaves and buds. Their biological cycle is highly dependent on ambient temperatures and the physiological state of the host plant.
This pest primarily attacks various ornamental and fruit-bearing plants. By feeding on the epidermal cells, the mites disrupt the plant's metabolic processes.
