The citrus rust mite (Phyllocoptruta oleivora) is a microscopic pest belonging to the family Eriophyidae. Despite its small size, it is globally recognized as a significant threat to citrus cultivation, causing severe economic losses by damaging both the fruit quality and the overall tree vigor.
This pest primarily attacks a wide range of citrus species, including lemons, oranges, and grapefruits. They tend to congregate on the surface of leaves, green stems, and, most importantly, the fruit, where they feed by piercing the plant tissue with their mouthparts and extracting cellular fluids.
