While often overshadowed by its more famous relative, the vine phylloxera, this species represents a significant threat to viticulture in its endemic and surrounding regions, requiring careful monitoring.
This pest exclusively targets grape plants (Vitis species). It possesses the ability to feed on various parts of the vine, including the leaves and root system. By piercing the plant tissues with its specialized mouthparts, the insect extracts vital sap, which negatively impacts the vine's physiological functions and overall development.
The biology and lifecycle of Phylloxera georgiana involve complex developmental stages, including mobile larval phases that facilitate the spread of the pest within and between vineyards.
