Plagiohammus is a genus of longhorn beetles (family Cerambycidae, order Coleoptera) known for their significant impact on various woody plants. These beetles are primarily found in the Neotropical regions, where they act as specialized stem borers, causing substantial damage to forestry and commercial agricultural plantations.
Common host plants for this genus include coffee (Coffea spp.) and cacao, as well as a variety of ornamental and fruit-bearing trees. The larvae of these beetles are wood-boring, meaning they spend the majority of their developmental life cycle tunneling within the host plant's tissues.
The biological cycle starts with the female laying eggs in crevices of the bark. Once the larvae emerge, they burrow into the xylem and phloem.
