Planotortrix is a genus of moths belonging to the family Tortricidae (leafrollers) within the order Lepidoptera. Primarily native to New Zealand, these moths have gained international agricultural attention due to their ability to damage a wide variety of fruit-bearing and ornamental plants. As specialists in leaf manipulation, they present a constant challenge for orchard managers.

The host range of Planotortrix is extensive, significantly affecting pome fruits like apples and pears, as well as stone fruits and various native forest species. Because these larvae are polyphagous, they can easily switch between host plants, ensuring their survival even when preferred food sources are scarce or managed through selective pruning or harvesting.

The biological cycle of Planotortrix consists of egg, larva, pupa, and adult stages. Females typically deposit egg clusters on the foliage of host plants. Upon hatching, the larvae immediately begin feeding and constructing silk-lined shelters by rolling or tying leaves together. Depending on the species and environmental conditions, they can produce multiple generations per season, making continuous monitoring essential.
