These microscopic organisms are commonly found in agricultural ecosystems, typically residing on the leaf surfaces, shoots, and bark of various perennial plants. While some members of the family are considered beneficial or neutral, certain species can cause economic damage.

These mites affect a variety of crops, including deciduous fruit trees, grapevines, and various ornamental plants. They are frequently observed in orchards where the microclimate provides sufficient humidity and shelter within the bark or leaf crevices during the off-season, allowing them to persist throughout the year.

The biology and lifecycle of Pronematus are characterized by rapid development stages. Under favorable conditions, particularly during warm and dry periods, the mite population can increase exponentially.
