Pronematus ubiquitus is a mite belonging to the Iolinidae family (order Trombidiformes). Although this mite was historically viewed as a scavenger or a minor associate, contemporary agronomic research identifies it as a significant pest in several horticultural systems. Its small size and cryptic habits often lead to misidentification, making it a challenging threat for greenhouse managers and farmers.
The host range of Pronematus ubiquitus is diverse, encompassing many commercially important crops. It is most frequently reported on solanaceous crops like tomatoes and peppers, as well as on various fruit-bearing plants such as grapes and citrus trees. Its ability to thrive in protected cultivation environments makes it a consistent problem for year-round agricultural production.
