Description

Proteoteras is a genus of moths belonging to the family Tortricidae. These insects are known as specialized pests that primarily target woody plants. Their cryptic behavior, often involving boring into shoots or leaf tissues, makes them a challenging adversary for foresters and arborists.

The primary hosts for these insects are trees within the genus Acer (maple). The larvae focus their feeding activity on developing buds and shoots. This selective feeding habit causes significant developmental issues, as it directly impacts the apical dominance and overall vigor of the young trees.

The life cycle of Proteoteras is intricately linked to the phenology of its host plant. They typically complete one or more generations per season.
