This insect primarily targets a variety of deciduous ornamental trees and shrubs. Common hosts include species such as Acer (maple) and Tilia (linden). The pest thrives in urban landscapes and nurseries, where dense planting and stable microclimates facilitate rapid population growth and subsequent plant stress.
The biology of Pulvinaria lepida is defined by a seasonal development cycle. The insect typically overwinters as second-instar nymphs on the bark of twigs. As temperatures rise in spring, these nymphs mature into adult females. Following fertilization, the females produce the characteristic ovisacs to protect their eggs, which hatch into mobile crawlers that disperse across the host plant.
