It is a well-known stored-product pest that infests a variety of dry organic materials, including agricultural commodities, museum specimens, and pantry staples, causing significant losses to food security.

This beetle is a generalist feeder that affects a wide range of stored crops. In agricultural settings, it primarily attacks stored grains such as wheat, barley, and maize, as well as legumes, oilseeds, and processed cereals.
