Rhyncomyia

Rhyncomyia is a genus of dipteran insects belonging to the family Calliphoridae. While most members of this family are recognized as blowflies associated with carrion, certain species within the genus Rhyncomyia show behavior that brings them into contact with agricultural crops, particularly during their reproductive and feeding stages.

Taxonomically, this genus is classified under the order Diptera, family Calliphoridae. These insects are characterized by their agility and often vivid, metallic coloration, which makes them distinct among other flies found in gardens, meadows, and crop fields.

The biology of these insects is closely linked to the flowering phenology of various plants. Adult flies primarily feed on nectar and pollen, frequently visiting the flowers of various agricultural crops. Their life cycle consists of four stages: egg, larva (three instars), pupa, and adult.
