These insects are classified as wood-boring pests, primarily targeting weakened or recently felled deciduous trees, which makes them significant contributors to timber degradation in natural and managed forests.

The primary hosts for these beetles include species such as willow, poplar, alder, and birch. The larvae are the main destructive stage, as they bore extensively through the cambium layer and into the wood, creating irregular galleries that disrupt nutrient transport and physically weaken the structural integrity of the tree.

The biological cycle of these beetles typically spans one to two years. Adults emerge during the summer months, feeding briefly on bark or sap before mating. Female beetles then seek suitable host trees with stressed physiology to lay eggs within the bark crevices or pre-existing wounds on the trunk.

The economic damage caused by Rusticoclytus is substantial, particularly in the forestry sector where infested wood loses its structural value and commercial viability. Furthermore, the tunnels created by the larvae often facilitate the entry of secondary pathogens and decay fungi, leading to more rapid tree decline.
