Taxonomic position: The genus Scymnodes belongs to the order Coleoptera and the family Coccinellidae. Although this family is primarily recognized for beneficial ladybirds, specific members within this group can exhibit phytophagous behavior, necessitating pest control measures in commercial agriculture and horticulture.

Damaged crops: This pest primarily affects vegetable crops, fruit trees, and various ornamental plants. It poses a significant threat to greenhouse environments and nursery stock, where dense plantings provide optimal conditions for rapid population expansion and subsequent crop damage.

Biology and life cycle: Scymnodes undergoes a complete metamorphosis involving egg, larval, pupal, and adult stages.
