The broad click beetle (Selatosomus latus) is a member of the Elateridae family within the order Coleoptera. This species is widely recognized in agriculture as a significant pest, primarily due to its larvae, commonly referred to as wireworms, which cause severe damage to the root systems and subterranean parts of many cultivated plants.
The pest targets a vast array of crops, including wheat, barley, maize, potatoes, and various root vegetables. Because the larvae dwell underground for several years, they pose a continuous threat to fields, capable of destroying seeds during germination and killing young seedlings by severing their roots or boring into the main stem.
