As a specialized pest, it poses a significant threat to various woody plants and tree species worldwide. Adult moths are typically nocturnal and possess cryptic coloration that allows them to blend in perfectly with tree bark, making detection by traditional visual inspection quite challenging.

The host range of this pest is extensive, including numerous commercially valuable crops such as coffee, cocoa, and various fruit trees. Squamura tetraonis thrives in warm climates, where it can complete multiple generations if environmental conditions permit.
