Systematic position: Stauropus alternus, commonly known as the Lobster moth, belongs to the order Lepidoptera and the family Notodontidae. The species is highly distinctive due to the peculiar morphology of its larvae, which feature elongated legs and a shape that mimics a dried twig, serving as a specialized anti-predator adaptation.
Host plants: The species is a significant polyphagous pest, affecting a wide variety of cultivated and wild plants.
