Systematic position: The apple pigmy moth (Stigmella incognitella) belongs to the order Lepidoptera, family Nepticulidae. This small moth is a well-known leaf miner that specifically targets fruit trees, primarily affecting apple orchards across various regions.
Host plants: The primary host for this species is the apple tree (Malus domestica). While it shows a high preference for apple, it can occasionally be found on other related species within the Rosaceae family, impacting the health and productivity of the trees.
Biology and life cycle: The life cycle consists of four stages: egg, larva, pupa, and adult. The adults emerge in spring and lay eggs on the undersides of the leaves.
