Stygia australis is a specialized insect pest belonging to the order Lepidoptera and the family Cossidae (goat moths). This species is primarily known in Mediterranean agro-ecosystems, where its larvae act as borers, causing localized but significant damage to specific plant hosts.
The pest typically infests various leguminous species and certain perennials. Because the larvae are internal feeders, they remain protected inside the plant tissues throughout most of their developmental stage, making them challenging to manage with standard surface-applied chemical treatments.
