Suidasia is a genus of microscopic mites belonging to the family Suidasiidae within the order Acariformes. These organisms are recognized globally as significant pests of stored agricultural products, capable of thriving in various environments ranging from warehouses to food processing facilities.

These mites primarily infest stored commodities, including a wide array of cereals, oilseeds, legumes, and processed materials such as flour and animal feed. Their ability to adapt to different substrates makes them a persistent threat to agricultural security and product quality during long-term storage.

The biology of Suidasia is characterized by a rapid life cycle under favorable conditions, which typically include high humidity and moderate to warm temperatures. They progress through egg, larval, and nymphal stages, and possess the ability to enter a quiescent stage known as a hypopus, which allows them to survive adverse environmental conditions.

The damage caused by Suidasia is multifaceted: they feed on the embryos and endosperm of seeds, causing significant germination loss. Furthermore, the presence of these mites contributes to the heating of stored grains, which facilitates the growth of mycotoxin-producing fungi and compromises the nutritional integrity of the commodities.
