Systematic position. The golden rove beetle (Tachyporus chrysomelinus) is a member of the order Coleoptera and the family Staphylinidae. These beetles are characterized by short elytra that leave much of the abdomen exposed. While often recognized as beneficial predators in agro-ecosystems, they can occasionally impact crops under specific environmental conditions.
Biology and life cycle. This species undergoes a complete metamorphosis, including egg, larval, pupal, and adult stages. The beetles overwinter in sheltered areas, such as leaf litter, straw piles, or the top layer of agricultural soil. As temperatures rise, they emerge to forage, showing high activity in the soil surface layer.
