Systematic position: Telenomus theophilae belongs to the order Hymenoptera, family Scelionidae. These are minute parasitoid wasps that act as crucial natural enemies for various lepidopteran pests, specifically focusing on the eggs of certain moth species.

Biology and life cycle: The species is a specialized egg parasitoid. The female wasp locates egg clusters of the host, such as the Siberian silkmoth (*Dendrolimus sibiricus*), and deposits an egg inside the host's egg. The entire larval development, pupation, and maturation occur inside the host egg, effectively killing the pest embryo before it emerges.

Host plants and damage: The insect does not damage plants directly. Its activity is strictly entomophagous. In an agronomic and forestry context, it is considered beneficial because it limits the population of silkmoths that would otherwise cause extensive defoliation of coniferous trees and significant economic loss to timber production.

Pest significance: While often categorized as a beneficial organism, high populations of Telenomus are the result of high host density. If the host population is eradicated through aggressive chemical spraying, the population of Telenomus theophilae also crashes, which may lead to subsequent surges of pests once the insecticide effect wears off.

This includes timing forest treatments to avoid interference with the adult activity of the wasp.
