Tetralobus is a genus of large click beetles belonging to the family Elateridae within the order Coleoptera. These insects are easily recognized by their unique thoracic mechanism that allows them to perform a leaping motion when turned upside down. While they are often considered part of natural biodiversity, certain species within this group are recognized as significant agricultural pests in specific geographical regions.

The primary hosts of Tetralobus include various field crops, vegetables, and tubers. The damage is primarily caused by the larval stage, commonly known as wireworms. These larvae inhabit the soil profile, where they feed on root systems, germinating seeds, and succulent stems located below the soil surface, causing severe physiological stress to the developing plants.

The biological cycle of Tetralobus is characterized by a prolonged larval stage that can last multiple years. During this period, the larvae undergo several molts, increasing in size and feeding intensity. The adult beetles typically emerge during warmer months to mate and deposit eggs in the soil near the base of suitable host plants, ensuring a continuous supply of food for the next generation.
