As members of the order Trombidiformes, these tiny arachnids are specialized plant feeders that use piercing-sucking mouthparts to damage host tissues. They are widely recognized in agronomy as significant agricultural pests capable of reducing crop yields if left unmanaged.
The host range for Tetranychina includes various agricultural crops, such as cereals, legumes, and several horticultural plants. They prefer arid and semi-arid conditions, often becoming problematic during dry seasons or in poorly irrigated fields. By colonizing the undersides of leaves, they effectively hide from casual observation until visible symptoms of damage emerge across the plant canopy.
