The spruce longhorn beetle (Tetropium gracilicorne) is a member of the order Coleoptera and the family Cerambycidae. This wood-boring insect is recognized as a primary pest of coniferous trees, particularly impacting spruce and fir stands across its geographical range by attacking compromised or freshly harvested logs.
The beetle typically targets weakened, stressed, or wind-thrown trees. Forests that have been affected by drought, industrial pollution, or other primary pests are particularly susceptible to colonization, as the trees lack the vigor required to defend against larval boring activities.
