Timaspis is a genus of insects belonging to the family Cynipidae (gall wasps) within the order Hymenoptera. These specialized insects are known for inducing abnormal growths, known as galls, on their host plants, which serve as both food and shelter for the developing larvae.

The primary hosts for Timaspis species include various herbaceous plants, particularly those within the Asteraceae family. For instance, Timaspis phoenixopus is known to affect lettuce and other wild composite plants, causing distinct swellings and structural changes along the stems.

The biological life cycle of Timaspis is intricately synchronized with the phenology of the host plant. Adult females deposit eggs into the soft tissues of developing shoots. Upon hatching, the larvae secrete chemical compounds that manipulate the plant's growth, inducing the formation of a gall that protects the larva throughout its development stages until it reaches maturity.

The damage caused by Timaspis is primarily characterized by the development of galls on stems. These structures interfere with the plant's vascular system, hindering the transport of nutrients and water.
