While it is a natural component of forests, it is classified as a pest in agricultural and horticultural settings where it targets woody plants.

The host range of this species primarily includes deciduous trees, with a notable preference for fruit-bearing species and certain ornamental plants. Citrus trees and other broad-leaved varieties are frequently susceptible to infestation.
