The simple cabinet beetle (Trogoderma simplex) is a significant stored-product pest belonging to the order Coleoptera and the family Dermestidae. This species is known for its ability to infest various agricultural commodities, posing a constant threat to food security in storage facilities worldwide.

This pest typically attacks a wide range of stored grains, including wheat, corn, and barley, as well as processed food products. The larvae are the primary damaging stage, capable of consuming significant amounts of grain kernels. Their feeding behavior often goes unnoticed until the population density becomes high and damage to the commodity becomes evident.

The life cycle of Trogoderma simplex consists of four stages: egg, larva, pupa, and adult. The developmental rate is highly dependent on ambient temperature and humidity levels.
