The mite Tydeus goetzi belongs to the family Tydeidae within the order Trombidiformes. These are microscopic organisms frequently found on the leaf surfaces of various agricultural and ornamental crops. Despite their small size, large populations can cause significant damage to plant vegetative organs by feeding on cellular sap.

The primary hosts of this pest include perennial woody plants, particularly grapevines, fruit trees, and various berry shrubs. They are often found in mixed populations with other mite species, which complicates visual identification and necessitates careful laboratory analysis for accurate species confirmation.
