Furthermore, it is a common inhabitant of warehouses and processing plants, where it infests stored flour, grains, cereals, dried fruits, and various animal feeds that have been exposed to high humidity levels.

Biology and life cycle comprise several stages: egg, larva, protonymph, deutonymph, and adult. The development rate is highly dependent on ambient temperature and relative humidity. In optimal conditions, such as temperatures near 25°C and high moisture content, the mite completes its life cycle in less than two weeks, leading to rapid population explosions.

Character of damage and harmfulness are primarily observed as the destruction of the seed germ, which renders the seed non-viable. Furthermore, the mites contaminate the grain with feces, molted skins, and secretions, which trigger the growth of mold and bacteria. This process significantly reduces the quality, nutritional value, and marketability of the stored commodities.

Control measures must focus on integrated pest management practices in storage environments. Maintaining grain moisture content below 13% is essential to inhibit mite reproduction. Regular sanitation, proper aeration of bins, and the removal of spilled grain are crucial. In severe infestation cases, professional fumigation of empty storage facilities is required to ensure complete eradication.
