This species is widely distributed and is primarily known as a secondary pest that prefers to colonize stressed, declining, or recently fallen trees rather than healthy ones.

Host plants: The rustic borer exhibits a broad range of hosts. It primarily infests a variety of hardwood tree species, including oak, maple, hickory, beech, and ash. It is frequently encountered in forest ecosystems, urban landscapes, and fruit orchards where trees may be suffering from environmental stressors or prior damage.

Biology and lifecycle: The insect completes its lifecycle through four stages: egg, larva, pupa, and adult. Adults are generally active during the warmer months, when mating occurs and females deposit eggs in bark crevices or under loose bark. Once hatched, larvae tunnel into the phloem and xylem, constructing galleries as they feed and grow throughout the season.
