Yanga

Yanga is a genus of insects belonging to the Cicadidae family, commonly known as cicadas. In agricultural practice, these insects are recognized as pests capable of causing significant damage to various perennial trees and shrubs in specific climatic regions.

These pests primarily target woody plant species, including orchards and ornamental plantations. The infestation often leads to stunted growth, reduced yields, and increased vulnerability of the host plant to environmental stress and secondary pathogen infections.

The biology of Yanga involves a lifecycle where nymphs spend a significant portion of their development feeding on root systems underground. Once they emerge as adults, they migrate to the stems and branches to mate, often causing physical injury to the bark during oviposition.

The damage caused by Yanga is twofold: mechanical injury from egg-laying sites and physiological stress from nutrient depletion due to sap-feeding. This combination can lead to dieback in twigs and, in extreme cases, the total failure of young horticultural stocks.

Effective management strategies against Yanga include:
