Host plants: This pest is a highly polyphagous species. It infests a wide range of woody plants, with primary hosts including coffee, tea, cocoa, and cinchona trees. Additionally, it frequently attacks various citrus species, mangoes, and diverse ornamental woody plants found in tropical and subtropical environments.

Biology and life cycle: The species undergoes a complete metamorphosis involving egg, larva, pupa, and adult stages. Females lay eggs on bark surfaces near buds or crevices. Upon hatching, the larvae bore directly into the twigs or main stems, creating extensive internal galleries. The larval stage is the most destructive phase, lasting several months before pupation occurs within the plant tissue.

Damage and economic impact: The larvae damage the tree by excavating internal tunnels, which disrupts the transport of water and nutrients. The primary symptoms include the wilting of terminal shoots, circular holes on the bark, and the presence of granular frass at the base of the plant. Heavy infestations often result in branch breakage and total plant death in young trees.
