1,3-Diphenyl urea
Description
1,3-Diphenyl urea (diphenylurea, DPU) is an organic compound belonging to the urea derivative class. In agricultural practice and plant physiology, this substance is classified as a synthetic cytokinin, exhibiting specific biological activity aimed at stimulating growth processes within plant tissues.
The mechanism of action of this compound is based on mimicking the activity of natural plant hormones known as cytokinins. 1,3-Diphenyl urea activates the processes of cell division (mitosis) in meristematic tissues, which facilitates accelerated development of plant organs, the formation of lateral shoots, and the delay of tissue senescence processes typically induced by ethylene synthesis.
The primary use of 1,3-diphenyl urea involves its application as a component of culture media for in vitro micropropagation of plants, as well as an active ingredient in plant growth biostimulants for field and vegetable crops. The substance helps plants overcome stress factors, improving root system development and accelerating recovery after adverse weather conditions.
Applying the product requires strict adherence to dosage guidelines, as excessive concentrations of plant hormones can result in tissue deformation, abnormal callus growth, or the inhibition of natural plant development. The effectiveness of the preparation depends directly on the overall physiological state of the crop and environmental conditions, such as light intensity and mineral nutrient availability.
When working with this substance, it is necessary to follow standard safety measures adopted for handling agrochemicals. These include the use of personal protective equipment for skin and respiratory tract, preventing the concentrate from entering water bodies, and strictly adhering to pre-harvest intervals. Storage should be in a dry, dark place, restricted to authorized personnel.
