The mechanism of action of 2,4-D is classified as an auxin mimic or growth regulator. Upon absorption by the leaves, the herbicide translocates to the meristematic tissues of the weed. This physiological disruption leads to the twisting and curling of stems, stunted growth, and eventually the death of the weed through the collapse of its vascular system.
