Active ingredient

Acibenzolar-S-methyl

Description

Acibenzolar-S-methyl belongs to the chemical class of benzothiadiazoles. Unlike conventional fungicides that directly target the metabolism of fungi or bacteria, this compound acts as a plant activator, specifically triggering the plant's internal defense systems to prevent infection.

The primary mechanism of action is the induction of Systemic Acquired Resistance (SAR). By mimicking natural signaling molecules within the plant, acibenzolar-S-methyl signals the plant to produce pathogenesis-related (PR) proteins. This enhanced immune state prepares the plant to defend itself more rapidly and effectively against subsequent pathogen attacks.

It is commonly used on various crops such as tomatoes, peppers, tobacco, and cereals. The substance is highly effective in managing bacterial spot, downy mildew, and various viral diseases that often resist standard chemical treatments. By strengthening the plant's resilience, it serves as a critical component in integrated pest management (IPM) programs.

The key to successful application is timing. Because it acts as an immune primer, it must be applied proactively before the onset of disease. If the plant is already heavily infected, the immune induction may not be sufficient to save the yield, making pre-symptomatic application a mandatory agronomic practice.

  • Induces natural resistance pathways.
  • Provides long-lasting systemic protection.
  • Functions as a plant health booster.
  • Compatible with most conventional crop protection products.

Operators should wear protective clothing and adhere to local regulatory guidelines when handling the product. While it is not toxic in the traditional sense, it is critical to prevent environmental contamination and strictly follow dosage recommendations to ensure maximum efficacy without compromising plant physiological processes.
