Bacillus firmus strain I-1582 is a naturally occurring, spore-forming soil bacterium utilized primarily as a biological nematicide. This active ingredient is widely recognized in sustainable agriculture for its ability to suppress plant-parasitic nematodes without the negative environmental impact associated with traditional synthetic chemical fumigants.
The mechanism of action of strain I-1582 involves the colonization of the root system. By establishing a biofilm on the roots, the bacteria create an environment unfavorable for nematode attachment and penetration.
