Capsicum oleoresin

Description

Capsicum oleoresin is a natural concentrate derived from Capsicum annuum fruits, widely utilized in agriculture as a potent biological repellent. The key active components, capsaicinoids, function as irritants that affect the nervous systems of various insects and vertebrates. Due to its natural origin, it is a preferred solution in IPM (Integrated Pest Management) systems where low toxicity is required.

The substance functions as a repellent and antifeedant. When applied to foliage, it creates a chemical barrier that deters pests from settling or feeding on the plant. It acts primarily through contact, causing an intense burning sensation in insects that attempt to chew on or walk across treated surfaces, effectively neutralizing the threat of pest colonization without killing beneficial predators.

This extract is used on a wide range of crops, including vegetables, fruits, and nursery ornamentals, to control aphids, thrips, spider mites, and caterpillars. Additionally, it is highly effective as a protective treatment for tree bark to prevent damage from rabbits, deer, and rodents. The repellent effect is long-lasting enough to secure the plant during its most vulnerable growth stages.

Proper handling is mandatory during the preparation and application phases. As a high-potency extract, it can cause severe respiratory and eye irritation. Operators must wear full personal protective equipment (PPE), including chemical-resistant gloves, goggles, and respirators. Always store the concentrate in a secure place, away from heat sources and out of reach of individuals without protective gear.

A major agricultural benefit of Capsicum oleoresin is its environmental profile. It is biodegradable and does not persist in the soil, ensuring that produce remains free of harmful chemical residues. Unlike synthetic pesticides, it minimizes the impact on non-target species and pollinators when applied correctly, making it a sustainable tool for modern and organic farming practices.

  • Highly effective natural deterrent.
  • Protects against insects and larger pests.
  • Biodegradable with no long-term residue.
  • Safe for use in organic cultivation.
  • Requires strict usage of protective gear.
