Description

Carvone is a naturally occurring terpene found in the essential oils of spearmint and caraway seeds. In agricultural practice, it is widely recognized as a safe and highly effective post-harvest sprout suppressant used to maintain the quality and marketable value of potatoes and other root vegetables during long-term storage.

The primary agricultural objective of using carvone is to inhibit the sprouting of tubers and bulbs. By regulating the biological processes in the meristematic tissues, carvone helps to significantly reduce weight loss, prevent shrinking, and maintain the firm texture of the vegetables, which is essential for retail markets and food processing industries.

The mechanism of action involves the interference with the physiological development of the eyes on the potato tubers.
