Chromafenozide

Description

Chromafenozide is a synthetic insecticide belonging to the diacylhydrazine class. It functions as an insect growth regulator (IGR), specifically mimicking the action of the molting hormone, ecdysone. This unique mode of action allows it to effectively disrupt the development cycle of target pests while maintaining a favorable profile for the environment.

The mechanism of action involves the compound binding to ecdysone receptors in the insect. This induces an abnormal, premature molting process that the larvae cannot survive. As a result, the pest enters a lethal molting state, ceases feeding shortly after ingestion, and subsequently dies, providing excellent crop protection.

Chromafenozide is highly targeted against Lepidopteran pests. It is commonly utilized in various cropping systems, including fruit orchards, vegetable fields, and tea plantations, to manage a wide array of leafrollers, fruit worms, and cutworms. Its efficacy is most pronounced when applied against early larval instars.

Application of chromafenozide is characterized by its stability under field conditions and its resistance to rainfall. Due to its systemic movement and translaminar properties, it provides long-lasting residual control. Proper application timing is critical, as the product is essentially a stomach poison that requires ingestion to be fully effective.

Regarding safety precautions, chromafenozide is generally considered to have low toxicity to non-target species, including beneficial predators and parasitoids. However, operators should always wear appropriate personal protective equipment during handling and application. It is vital to minimize spray drift and prevent contamination of water sources to protect aquatic life.
