Description
Daminozide is a specialized synthetic plant growth regulator belonging to the hydrazide chemical class. In modern horticulture, it is primarily utilized as a retardant to control the vegetative growth of ornamental plants. By reducing excessive elongation of stems, it helps growers produce compact, sturdier, and more aesthetically pleasing plants that are easier to handle and transport.
The mechanism of action of daminozide involves the inhibition of gibberellin biosynthesis. By disrupting the production of these key plant hormones, the substance effectively slows down cell elongation in the stems without negatively impacting the plant's overall health, root growth, or flowering capacity.
