Dicofol is a specialized contact acaricide belonging to the organochlorine chemical class, specifically the benzhydrol derivatives. In agricultural practice, it has been widely utilized for the control of a broad range of phytophagous mites that cause significant economic damage to orchards, vineyards, and field crops. Modern formulations are subject to strict regulatory oversight to ensure minimal levels of DDT-related impurities, aligning with international environmental and safety standards.
The mechanism of action of dicofol centers on disrupting the metabolic processes within the pest's nervous system. By interfering with nerve signal transmission, the active ingredient induces paralysis followed by the death of the mite. Because dicofol lacks systemic properties, it does not translocate within plant tissues. Consequently, the efficacy of the treatment relies heavily on thorough and uniform spray coverage of all plant parts, particularly the undersides of leaves where mites congregate.
