DNOC

Description

DNOC (dinitro-ortho-cresol) is a highly potent pesticide belonging to the nitrophenol chemical class. It acts as a multi-purpose agent, serving simultaneously as a herbicide, insecticide, and fungicide, which makes it an essential tool for early spring plant protection programs in intensive horticulture.

The mode of action for DNOC involves the disruption of oxidative phosphorylation within the cells of target pests and pathogens. By uncoupling this metabolic process, the chemical accelerates the respiration of target organisms to an unsustainable level, leading to the exhaustion of their energy reserves and rapid biological control of fungi, eggs, and larvae.

The substance is primarily used in orchards, vineyards, and berry plantations. Application is strictly limited to the dormant season before the buds begin to swell. It effectively manages overwintering populations of pests like scale insects, mites, and aphids, as well as providing control over various fungal pathogens such as leaf curl and scab.

Effective application requires meticulous adherence to agricultural standards. Treatments should be performed when temperatures are low, ideally not exceeding +10...+15°C, to prevent chemical damage to emerging buds. The spray coverage must be thorough, ensuring that the liquid penetrates bark crevices where overwintering pests typically reside.

Due to its high toxicity to mammals, bees, and beneficial insects, stringent safety measures are mandatory when handling DNOC. Operators must wear full personal protective equipment, including respirators, chemical-resistant gloves, and goggles. Furthermore, contamination of water sources must be strictly avoided, and local regulations regarding the use of such toxic substances must be followed.
