Description
Field horsetail (Equisetum arvense L.) is recognized as a fundamental substance in plant protection, classified as a botanical fungicide. In contemporary agronomy, it is valued for its rich composition, particularly its high silica content, which acts as a powerful elicitor of plant defense mechanisms against various biotic and abiotic stresses.
The mechanism of action involves reinforcing the plant's cell walls. The silica supplied by the extract builds a physical fortification, making leaf tissues more resistant to mechanical penetration by fungal hyphae. Furthermore, the presence of specific compounds like equisetonin exerts a direct fungitoxic effect on various pathogens, disrupting their membrane integrity and preventing further development.
The product is widely applied across vegetables, fruit trees, and ornamental plants. It is highly effective against powdery mildew, scab, rusts, and potato late blight. Beyond disease control, it serves as an excellent tonic, promoting robust growth and helping plants recover from environmental stress, such as intense solar radiation or moisture deficits.
For best results, field horsetail extract should be used preventively. Regular foliar spraying throughout the growing season ensures a continuous concentration of silica in the tissues, creating a hostile environment for disease establishment. It is essential to ensure thorough coverage of the leaf surface, including the undersides where many spores initially settle.
